Note:
- The narrative motif — an aging gentleman attended by a loyal Black servant, a gathering at the household, and a subsequent nocturnal vigil — evokes sentimental-romantic themes known from 19th-century European society fiction, with a tone reminiscent of Russian literary culture.

- In certain bibliophile editions of the period, artists authenticated the suite by signing and numbering the half-title or limitation page rather than the individual plates. The absence of signatures or numbering on these impressions may therefore be consistent with such practice.
