Artist: Georges Jules Auguste Cain (1856 - 1919) was a French painter, illustrator, and writer who specialized in the history of Paris, its monuments, and theaters.
Engraver: Léon Gaucherel (1816-1886), painter and etcher, born in Paris, a pupil of Viollet-le-Duc; first engraved for several archaeological publications but turned to etch reproductions of Old Master and contemporary paintings.

Signed and Dated in plate: "A mon ami Lheritier 1881" and etched signature of Léon Gaucherel below the image.
Dimensions: Image 8 3/4" x 5 3/4". Sheet 13 1/4" x 8 3/4".  Backing sheet 17 1/4" x 12 1/8".
Date: 1881. First state. Before its publication in the magazine "L'Art" in 1882.
Materials and Techniques: etching on laid paper.
Mat and Frame: hinged alongside the upper margin to the backing sheet.
Provenance:  The Estate of George "Yorgo" Demetrakopoulos; professor, assistant director of the Medieval Institute, and assistant to the dean at Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, Michigan, from 1965-2000.
