Inscriptions: Signed and dated "H. Farrer 1881" in the plate, lower left. Handwritten in pencil along the lower sheet margin: "The Tow – original etching by Henry Farrer." At lower right: "Exh. National Academy – 1882."

Provenance: The Sherman Galleries. The gallery was a prominent art shop located in Newport News, Virginia. The original gallery label is attached verso.
Condition: Water staining and tidelines in the upper left corner. The signs of aging are appropriate for the time. A detailed condition report is available on demand.
