Artist: Jacob Folkema (Dutch, 1692-1767), an engraver in Amsterdam. Father Johannes was a goldsmith. Trained by his father and later by Bernard Picart.
Title:  The Generous Lover illustration to Del Amante liberal. Novela II. Page 90 of volume 1 of "Nouvelles de Michel de Cervantes Saavedra."
Titled, Dated, and Signed in plateJ: Folkema del. et sculp. 
Numbered in the top right: "Tom. i. pag. 90." This line has been cut off and is included here for reference purposes only.
Dimensions: Sheet 5 1/2" x 3 1/4".
Edition: "Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra. Exemplary Novels " In the XVIII Century, there were several editions of the 'Exemplary Novels' with the same set of Folkema illustrations. The first one was in 1739.

Materials and Techniques: engraving on laid paper pasted along the upper edge onto the backing sheet.
Provenance:  The Estate of George "Yorgo" Demetrakopoulos; professor, assistant director of the Medieval Institute, and assistant to the dean at Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, Michigan, from 1965-2000.
Condition: Trimmed to the image. The signs of aging are appropriate for the time. A detailed condition report is available on demand.
