Artist: John William Winkler (1890–1979), American printmaker; born in Vienna; in San Francisco by 1906; life scholarship at San Francisco Institute of Art; traveled to Paris and London 1921, returned to California 1929. 
Title: The Little Turk.
Signed twice: in plate and with hardly visible signature in pencil beneath the image. 
Dimensions:  Image 2 7/8" x 1 7/8".
Date: 1923.

Materials and Techniques: etching on laid paper.
Provenance:  The Estate of George "Yorgo" Demetrakopoulos; professor, assistant director of the Medieval Institute, and assistant to the dean at Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, Michigan, from 1965-2000.
Condition: tanned. Hinges and remnants of glue verso. The signs of aging are appropriate for the time. A detailed condition report is available on demand. 
Part of:  "The Beggars". The Suite was created in France in the 1920’s.
