Engraver: Aronne Mauri (Italy, 1804 - 1874). "He was born in Lesmo, an estate of Gernetto, owned by Giacomo Mellerio. Deaf-mute at birth, he is the son of the estate's chief gardener. He is taken into protection by Count Mellerio and sent to literary-artistic studies at the Institute for the deaf and dumb in Genoa. Back in the estate, he devoted himself intensely to burin copper engraving. Under the count's dependence, he produced the reproduction of various pictorial works owned by himself, which he sent to his friends. Due to his skill, he was admitted as an assistant to the chair of engraving at the Brera School." (from the Italian Wikipedia).
