Artist: possibly, Hans Schaufelein, (German, c.1482-1539/1540), painter and designer of woodcuts and glass-paintings. Strongly influenced by Albrecht Dürer, in whose studio in Nuremberg he worked from c. 1503. The more than thirty woodcuts for "Laienspiegel"  created by the monogrammist HF and by Hans Schäufelein (around 1480-around 1540) are known.

Provenance:  The Estate of George "Yorgo" Demetrakopoulos; professor, assistant director of the Medieval Institute, and assistant to the dean at Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, Michigan, from 1965-2000.
Condition: Upper right corner is torn off. The signs of aging are appropriate for the time. A detailed condition report is available on demand.
Part of: page Mii (there is custom navigation between pages, according to the order of letters in the alphabet). "Laienspiegel von rechtmässigen Ordnungen in burgerlichen und peinlichen Regimenten". 1509. The work was important enough to pass through 14 editions in the 16th century.
