'Londina Illustrata' was originally conceived by William Herbert as a series of facsimiles of scarce seventeenth century prints and drawings but grew to include many less useful topographical details. The printseller Robert Wilkinson's involvement in the project ensured the series included many prints of buildings of historical interest that were undergoing restoration, alteration, or replacement, and it brought in the skills of a talented team of artists, engravers, and surveyors.
The series was published in a number of editions between 1808 and 1834.
